Hats Off to Truck Drivers

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week - August 20-26 Back

Chester, VA - August 14, 2007 - Around this time each year, America’s truck drivers are acknowledged for the significant part they play in getting consumer goods to market.  These men and women driving long haul cover more than 100,000 miles a year on average.  This year, President Bush has designed August 20 to 26 as National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.

“Drivers are saluted for their determination to get the goods to market, regardless of road construction, weather delays or personal inconvenience,” stated John Flynn, president of National Xpress Logistics in Glenside, a third party logistics firm that contracts with more than 2,000 trucking firms to move freight throughout North America.

In the last 20 years, there has been an 84% increase in miles traveled by large trucks.  In the same period, the percentage of large trucks involved in fatal crashes has declined by 49%.  With a focus on safety and security, the trucking industry continues to be the backbone of the economy.
